Every once in awhile I splurge and veer from my norm of buying drugstore/Target makeup and go for a new item from Bobbi Brown. I have a lip palette that I wanted to replace but unfortunately is no longer available....however in my search I found this new Palette that is not only cute and tiny enough to fit in a small evening bag (great for a stocking stuffer too!) but also not too pricey ($25) for what you get. The "Party To Go Palette" rocks!

The eye shades are perfect for that smoky eye that I like to do for evening. In addition to the two universally flattering lip colors the "high Shimmer" lip gloss is the perfect shade for night time/holiday dressy and fits right into a slot in the Palette! Genius!

It's my favorite time of year....FALL!
Love the change of seasons from Summer to Fall and with the turning of the leaves comes the turning over of my closet from fun flats and riding boots....to layered sweaters and scarves.
I have to say that dressing in the summer is much easier - throw on a sundress and your done!
With fall it is more complicated for me and adds a bit more prep time to coordinate all of the accessories.
I find that I have my go-to camis and tops and I change up the shoe/scarf/blazer/jacket/sweater that I pair it with.
When going to a fall fest this past weekend I would say that 85% of the women were sporting the skinny jean and boot look. And I have to say it looks good on every body type.

Shades of Coral.....and cute gingham tops!

That is what I saw when shopping with a friend this week...at nearly every store we went into!
Orange, coral, salmon....whatever you want to call it - it was EVERYWHERE!
We both managed to purchase an item (or two) in this apparently, on-trend color.
The Set below consists of some examples of the things we saw on our shopping adventure....(pictured together here but pick ONE and wear it as a pop of color - not all together ;). I purchased the flats seen below at Talbots (for a steal!) in a similar shade of coral but mine are suede and a bit lighter than the ones pictured.

On to Gingham "camp" tops or blouses! I fell in LOVE with the ones at JCREW....

but did not fall in love with the price ($72 for a cotton shirt? No, thank you!) But the next day...what to my wandering eyes should appear (as I was clothes shopping for my boys at Old Navy) but, a very cute gingham blouse - very much the same just a bigger check....

For waaaaay less..... (on sale for $19.50!)
Sorry JCrew - I love you but...your are way overpriced in my opinion. (I am not sure what was up with the one we visited either... they did not even have a SALE rack to be found...dissapointing.)

Nearly time to get those kids ready for "back to school" clothing and what better place to do that than H&M?! (They have affordable and trendy looks for mom too!)

Back to school shopping makes me want to have a girl to shop for....look at this cute coat [above] (available in sizes 12mos-8yrs) and these adorable dresses!!

I am so buying this cute preppy plaid shirt for my boys!

In a slight departure from wearable fashion I have found an item that can boost your "classiness" when you are drinking your beer/soda/canned summer beverages!

My friend gifted us this cute hot-pink Lilly Pulitzer Koozie while we were away on our girls weekend. LOVE it! Not only is it cute and classy but also portable - it flattens out so you can put it in your purse! I carried mine with me all weekend in my clutch bag.
I love summer! :)

Jorts (jean/denim shorts)......
Recently on Facebook there have been questions amongst "friends" whether grown men/women can/should be sporting jorts. I have two sons and they had several pairs of jorts as babies. Elastic waist, soft material, goes with any top..... Like jeans, in the summer the jort was an easy go-to. When boys get older though, it becomes less-cute and more....shall we say "out". In other words....I'm pretty sure grown men should not be sporting the jort.

Not even a celebrity male can pull off this look.

(That's hottie Mark Wahlberg....looking much less than hot.)

So I did some research to see if I could find some "classy" examples of jorts-wearing men.

Although these guys are pretty cute.....still not pulling it off..

Funny though! (Wouldn't a "Jorts party" be a riot!?!)

Closest thing to "classy" jean short for men are these chambray shorts from JCrew.

(although my husband, for reasons I will refrain from mentioning, would not ever wear these either)

On to the ladies.....can you pull them off??

My answer is.....yes....BUT it depends on the fit, wash and length.

Some ladies can sport these ultra short ones (I wish I could).

But you have to have the legs/tush to do it right.

In other words if you have cellulite and flab, skip the skimpy ones.

A more figure-friendly pair like these bemuda's from Old Navy may be better for someone who is over 35 and doesn't have model-perfect legs/body.

Another option is something in a "trouser" style and darker wash (from GAP shown below on top) or a chambray lighter material (also from the GAP shown below on bottom) that you can pair with some cute leg-lengthing wedges can be more age-appropriate and a classy alternative.

Or if you are really not wanting to show much leg...go for these cute cropped jeans...I like to call japri's! (I love the sash for a belt and would't these be cute with espadrilles and a white T?

New looks from your old closet...

since making my Lenten promise to not buy anything for myself I have to say I have done really well and not bought a THING.

Because the weather is getting warmer here *thank you God!* I have been able to pull "old" things from my closet and make them new by pairing them up in new ways. One of the things I like to do the day before I am going somewhere is to "style" an outfit on the hanger and put it out with all the accessories that I will wear with it. This does take some time, however, I have found that I am much less rushed after I put the kids to bed and I can spend some time mixing and matching things then rather than in the morning when I am rushing to get out the door. Sometimes I even have two options because the weather here can be so unpredictable and also I may just end up being more in the mood for one look over another.

Yesterday I rocked my skinny Levi's with a turqoise tank from Eddie Bauer, Steve Madden flats and a locket from Charlotte Russe (thanks "T" for the recommendation on that store!)

So during this time of Lent I am challenging myself to not buy anything new for myself.
It's not going to be easy - I am tempted every day.
But I know I can do it.
I am actually excited about how many outfits I can recreate with what I already have in my closet!!!

A lot of the trends and looks that are "in" right now I already own, it's just a matter of pulling it out and putting it together....

Like a colorful trench for spring! (I have green and yellow).... And/or cute denim or cotton jacket to thow on for chilly spring mornings....Some darling flats are a must for spring when it is too cold (where I live) for sandals but you are done with the boots...And don't forget the SCARF!!

We have had a few warmer days here in northern VA and it is making me anxious to start wearing pretty sundresses again. Speaking of sundresses - I ordered my first dress from Anthropologie and it arrived yesterday. I LOVE IT! I don't have a pic of me wearing it but it is this one:

It has such a different whimsical pattern on it. Perfect for an upcoming baby shower I may be attending or for Easter. The neckline is so different than anything I had ever seen - almost like origami or something. Really neat. And I also purchased this necklace:

The ribbon threaded throughout is the same exact color as the sash on the dress. I had not even bought it to intentionally go with the dress but it is a really great match. The large chain adds a nice juxtaposition from the sweetness of the dress.
Can't wait to wear my new springtime purchases!!!!

LEVI's - as you know I am enjoying their new curvy jeans - great fit - highly recommend for those with a bootay!

MACY's INC brand - I have loved International Concepts brand at Macy's for a long time. It is timeless, yet trendy all at the same time.

Here are a few clothing reviews from some recent purchases....

I received my LEVI's BOLD curve skinny jeans the other day! What fast service! They are a great fit. Definitely hug the curves. ("Bold" was the way to go.) I am not completely sold on the wash....they have very prominent lighter lines around the hip area (as seen in pic)... however, this creates a kind of a "rock n roll" distressed vibe so I'm going to go with it! Planning on wearing them out (2 birthday parties!!) tomorrow night with my black riding boots.

I purchased two sale items (free shipping too) from Banana Republic that also arrived in a very timely manner. I really needed some new wool dress pants to wear to church. The ones I had were completely worn out and pilling up (not great quality to begin with?) so I found these from Banana Republic. (Unfortunately there are only a few sizes left in this pant but if you can find yours I highly recommend them!!)

My favorite things about these are the material...the color is so pretty and the weight of these is rich and thick unlike some of my other wool pants. They are great quality. My MOST favorite part is the fit. They have two buttons at the sides so that you can adjust the waist. If you have a problem like I always do where the waist is always gaping in the back this allows you to adjust to the smaller buttons and you don't have to have them tailored! What a savings!!! YAY!

Also purchased these "Pretty ruffle" booties in smoke.

I had been searching for some like these to go with a wool skirt from JCrew and these are perfect!
Also they look great with the new wool pants. I think they will look cute to wear out at night with skinny jeans too. Although they are a higher heel the tiny platform and on the front makes them bearable....really!!!
So cute!!!

Can't wait to wear my new purchases!! :)

Can't get enough.......blue jeans!

There are several things in my life/makeup bag/wardrobe that I cannot get enough of. Kisses from my husband and sons (life), lip gloss and mascaras (makeupbag) and purses, scarves, jewerly, SHOES and blue jeans (wardrobe). This post will focus on the BLUE JEANS. I have so many pairs that I cannot even count them although really I have been living in about 3 of the dark wash skinny jeans this winter as they look so great tucked into my black or brown riding boots. They even look cute on warmer days with flats. I still pull out some bootcuts every now and then though. I have some Calvin Kliens from Costco that I LOVE that I wear every now and then. In summer I pull out the cropped pair that I found from Eddie Bauer that fit just right....

It seems I am always searching for the perfect pair that is going to make me look and feel skinny. (aren't we all) I really love the Forever Skinny jeans from GAP. (ooooo, right now they are on SALE but only left in 00). As with most GAP jeans/pants they come in lengths so if you are petite or tall you can order the right length for you. Unfortunately it looks from their website as if they are changing this over to the "Always Skinny" jean - which I have not tried on so not sure of the fit there. I have trouble because my waist is a lot smaller than my hips so I have to look for jeans for "curvy" women. Fortunately, these days lots of brands are now making jeans just for this body type!!! Eddie Bauer, Loft, Banana Republic, etc. One brand of jeans I am anxious to try is the Levi's Curve.....they have levels of curve - from slight to demi to bold (that's me!). I am ordering these (pictured above) and will let you know how they measure up!

Hello Blog-world....it's been way too long!
Have had many fashion opportunities to blog about and not the time to do it. Going to try my best to get back into it in 2011.

As you can see from my title I turned the BIG FOUR - OOH yesterday! and none too happy about it. BUT I am slowly but surely getting used to the idea of being an "older" woman. It's all relative you know. ;)

I wanted to share a fun outfit I wore Christmas Eve. I bought this dress last year and wore it NYE sanz the fun feathery-sparkly broach. I found the broach at White House Black Market (no long available) and bought it thinking it MIGHT match my Banana Replublic (here is a link to a simlar dress) dress from 2009...and low and behold it was a PERFECT match. TOTALLY makes the outfit in my opinion. I paired it with my new favorite black sueded and patent leather Madden Girl peeped toed pumps (boy that's a long description!) and sheer black hose....Here you have it!
I felt FAB! (that's my mom sporting an equally fabulous frock!)

I love the movie "The Sound of Music" and seeing as my kids love Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins I think I just may have to introduce them to the Sound of Music today. I know they will love that song! Anyway...

was just perusing the Piperlime site I came across several nifty, gifty items which in turn inspired me to make a polyvore (love that site too!) set of favorite fall accessories!
As an aside - I love this Hive and Honey brand sold on Piperlime....cute and affordable accessories!!! And gotta have the "welly sock"...or rainboot sock. I have some rainboots I bought from Target and those cozy sweatery socks would be great in them (great gift too!). As you know I am a "scarf girl" and I have been eyeing these new "infinity" scarves they are showing now....just a circle of fabric with no ends to drip into your soup bowl.....GENIOUS! As you probably know Prince William finally popped the question to his girlfriend of 7 years. I love that she's a "commoner" and that she is CLASSY as all get out! Her style is simple and chic.
She can rock the wrap dress (which, I believe I have stated before, is an essential piece to every woman's wardrobe).

Her classic brown riding boots....PERFECT.....gotta have them!

And her "royal" blue dress that she wore yesterday when they announced their engagement is so pretty and ultra-flattering for most every figure.

Of course she can also rock the hat like no other....I'm hoping this trend will take off here in the states!! Maybe I'll start it....

You know what though....I think she can use a little help in the shoe department. Let's branch out from the conservative black pump, why don't we? (And are those *gasp* nude hose she is wearing in the photo with Wills???) Did you see the interview with the two of them on the news last night? So cute, I want an english accent.... Only a brit can get away with saying things like "we had a giggle". Love it!

I cannot wait to see the dress she wears for the wedding. I was one of the many little girls that woke up early to see Lady Diana in her pouffy dress walk down the aisle.

Ooooo, and what color will the bridesmaids wear?

Buckles and Boots

I recently broke down and bought two new pairs of boots.(gasp) I was obsessing over the ones with buckles and riding boots in general. I ended up getting a black pair of riding boots (which actually look more like motorcycle riding boots rather than horse-riding but I still love them) as well as a pair of slouchy but tall brown suede boots with gold buckles! Both very resonably priced (under $100) from DSW... LOVE them both! They are perfect with skinny jeans tucked into them, a fun sweater or top with a scarf or other fun accessory (of course!). Now I just need a brown pair of riding boots and I am set for fall and winter....Pictured below are some I am considering. (I really love the color of the Steve Madden ones - that luggage brown is my fave!)

Just one accessory....

Yes, just adding a cool pendant necklace, pretty blingy earrings or a colorful scarf to an otherwise blah outfit (t-shirt and jeans) can MAKE the outfit an actual outfit.

I was invited to a Mary Kay party at a friends house this weekend and she asked me to do my bit on fashion - however we ran out of time so all I had time for was my scarf-tying demo that I like to do. That was literally all we had time for. It made me realize that sometimes all we really need to do to look and feel "pulled together" or outfitted is to put on a pretty scarf or necklace. Really! It is such a simple thing that you can do each day, even as a busy mom!!

I recently went to Forever 21 for the first time in a very long time. I am nowhere near 21 so I felt a little wierd going in there at first....but ladies, you have to do it. They have all the trendy, fun, cute accessories you could ever want and more for VERY cheap. I bought two super cute antique-looking necklaces for about $4 each, and that's not even on sale!!! (I could have spent way more time and money in there but I had to get home to pick up the boys from school.)

Turns out it was not as formal of an event as I would have thought but the LBD was not inappropriate. And it is always better to be over dressed that under dressed. Always.

I am obsessed with this "Rag and Bone" brand military jacket (seen front and center in the below look insert) that I have seen lately, several times in various fashion magazines. The material is a soft cotton (knit??) and the cut is so cute but not overly "military"-ish.....however at $475, I am not going to be purchasing this gem any time soon (unless I win the lottery, and I don't even PLAY the lottery)....sooo I found a few military jackets under $100, one of which just MAY make its way into my closet this fall....

Lesson learned : Buy it and try it

I was posed with a dilemna this weekend on which shoes I should buy to go with my LBD ruffly-front dress to go to my husbands 20th HS reunion in a few weeks. I had previously worn it with gold sandals which I loved but were completely trashed the last time I wore them (how, I do not know). I want to to make it more fall-ish so was looking for a pump or shoe that would segue this LBD over to this season. I found two shoes at DSW that I just could not decide on. I knew I would get some help from my friends if I posted this pic on Facebook. Sure enough the comments came rolling in....Here are the shoes:

Everyone who commented chose the front ruffle-y shoe.

Two friends suggested I buy them both and try them on with the dress. I am sure glad I did!

Although I loved the ruffle front ones the best too, they just did not look right with the dress. The ruffles were just "too much" (my husbands words)....AND the fact that the ankle strap cut my leg-line off (can you say cankles?) and the others made my legs look better/longer was a definite deciding factor. Not to mention (but I will) that the ruffle ones were $30 more and not comfortable at all. So the gorgeous front ones are going back to DSW today and I am keeping the Madden Girl peep toes. They are so comfy (really!) - suede and patent - and will be great with all of my fall dressier pants and dresses too!

Ready, set.....FALL!

I am (sooooo) ready for the kids to be back to school (they go back the 7th of September here) and excited about what the new year holds for them and for me. For me, the season of autumn with the leaves changing and going back to school is my "new year" rather than the typical calendar New Year on January 1st. In the fall I feel rejuvenated and ready to get back to routine (I love structure, both in my life and my jackets!) and being healthier (eating better, exercising more and drinking more water), happier and just ready to tackle all that life has to offer!
I have begun my Fall rejuvenation process with a new haircut...it's not that different from my old one but basically growing out my bangs to be more like a swoop down across my forehead (since I have a large one). My hairdresser cut them so that I can put them to either side or even part in the middle....think Victorias Secret model! To style he put a few drops of Moroccan Agadir Miracle Oil along with some TIGI Bed Head After the Party Smoothing Cream. before blow drying. That Moroccan oil is pricey but he gave me a few sample packets to try that I bet will last me 6 months to a year (you just use a touch)!

I am ready but bust out my old leopard pointy toed slingbacks that I got 2 years ago from Ann Taylor. They are the bomb! However I may have to invest in a new pair because I wore them a LOT last year and they are really worn down. This is a problem, since we are still saving up for our big ticket items (couch, computer, etc.) and cannot spend as much $$ on clothes as I have in the past. Any tips for me??

I have also been eyeing some really cute riding boots. I am a pre-school teacher 3 days a week and as much as I love heels they are just not practical for my job. I think a riding boot like these might work....

I am needing (wanting) a new pair of leopard flats for fall to replace the ones I bought a few years back from Boden. They are in need of a new sole and I don't think they are salvagable at this point. I loved those shoes....

Anyhow - I found some on sale at Macy's! They have this rockin' zipper bow on the toe that I LOVE. So cute! (Just to let you in on a deal...right now they are having free shipping on any $75 WOMENs purchase code DENIM.)

As you know from previous posts I am cutting back on my clothing spending so that we can save for a few bigger ticket items (couch, car, computer....). Well, my favorite magazine of all time, INSTYLE must have received the memo and felt sorry for me..... on my doorstep today I received a package which contained an Eileen Fisher cardigan (for FREE!!!!) to thank me for being an "Instyle Trendsetter". Whooeeee, I love it! Being said "trendsetter", I and do some product sampling and reviews (most recently a new toothpaste (Colgate Pro-clinical which, by the way, I love!) and fill out the occasional survey. So worth the little time and effort it takes to do this. What fun! Thanks InStyle...you ROCK!

Soon I am off to enjoy a week at the beach with my immediate and extended family! Our annual trek to the beach....can't wait to run my toes through the sand. You can bet I am bringing all of my sundresses and linen pants....maybe I'll throw in my new cardi for chilly nights on the Jersey shore! ;)

Product Review Monday - SHAMPOO and CONDITIONER

I have been using L'oreal EverPure Sulfate-Free (Smooth) Shampoo and Conditioner for awhile now. Overall I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. I don't use it every time I shampoo because it is a bit thick/concentrated and it seems to build up on the hair over time. So I use it every other shampoo. I especially like to use it after I have been swimming in the pool. It has UV filters in it too so protects from those harsh summer rays! It does not have any harsh chemicals that strip your color! (Also 100% vegan if you into that kinda thing.) I really think it helps to preserve my color (I have highlights and low-lights in my brown hair) and prolong times between getting my roots done at the salon!!

Well, I am happy/sad to report that I will have to stop spending money on clothing for awhile. Hubby and I are saving up for some new things around the house as well as a new (used) car for him and in order to do that I need to STOP spending. YIKES! So, I am going to try and use this time to be more creative in my outfits using things I already own in my closet. Plus, I REALLY need to clean out my closet. Once the boys go back to school, I'm on it!

This week I am super busy with teaching music for Vacation Bible School at our church. I am struggling with wearing the same shirt every day (a bright orange tie dye T....I surely need a fashion citation!!) but hey, a woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do!

I hope to return later in the week with a few product reviews and fun outfits!

Another review and an update.....e.l.f. makeup and the "shabby apple" dress

Was at Target perusing the makeup aisles and came across the e.l.f. line of cosmetics.

DUDE, they are super cheap. Decided to try the eyeliner which came WITH a sharpener for only $1. Yes, that's a DOLLAR folks!!! PLUS got a pack of three lip glosses for only $3 (that's a dollar a-piece!) SWEET! Love the glosses as they are in a click-up brush form. They are not sticky and the colors are just right. Great find!

On a less positive note.... I received my shabby apple dress (from this post) today only to find that the fit is just not right for me. I still LOVE the website though and will try again with something else!

Product Review - Nail Polish

I decided to branch out of my pink, coral and red nail polish colors this summer and try some fun ones. I recently got a pedicure and chose a pale lavendar color that I loved. Well, I branched even further and with the help of my boys (6 and 7.5 years old now) chose a bright yellow polish to try at home. The polish I chose was Sally Hansen Inta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color in Lightening Creme. I struggled with this from the first brush stroke. The result was a streaky, gloppy mess. The brush is extremely wide - too wide for my tiny toenails. I tried to use one more coat to "fix" it up but it was just making it worse. A disaster. I had to remove all the polish (an equally messy job) and apply my trusty Revlon "Craving Coral" color instead. I have not given up on branching out on different colors (maybe mint green next!?) but I have given up on SH quick-dry polishes.

Summer Sales

Yesterday on my day "off" (my wonderful mother-in-law takes the kids for me once a week in the summer so I can have a "mommy day") I went and got my hair did (highlights and a haircut) and then went over to Old Navy to find some shorts for my boys to go with their authentic Hawaiian shirts that the in-laws brought back from their trip to Kauai. They were having a great sale I guess cleaning out the summer stuff already (I feel like summer just started for us!?). I was disappointed though that it seemed so empty. EVERYTHING was on sale but there was not much inventory to choose from. I did find some cute khaki cargo's for the boys for only $10. I found a cute cover-up for only $9 and also a scarf for $6!!! Love that!

Today in my area it's going to top off in the 100s! YIKES! With that said, for me summer is the perfect time to wear linen.....even though it wrinkles easily and is a pain to iron, I still love it because it is cool and looks cool. I especially love white linen pants. (As an aside, Ali on "The Bachellorette" last night wore some really cute ones that look very similar to ones in my closet that I had totally forgotten about....I'm going to have to get them out ASAP!) Today I have on these shorts from Victoria's Secret:

They are super comfy and just the right length...not too long, not too short.

SUMMER - Monday Product Review

In keeping with my focus on summer favorites I have found a product I especially like for beachy wavy hair. Normally I blow dry my long-layered hair straight but in the summer months when I am going to the pool a lot with the boys I let it air dry in order to give it a break from the hairdryer and/or straightening iron. My hair is on the dry side anyway so I give it a lot of extra conditioning. The conditioner I am loving now is Garnier Fructis Haircare Triple Nutrition 3-Minute Undo Dryness Reversal Treatment 8.5 fl oz (250 ml. I also use a leave-in conditioner before I put in my styling product. The Leave-in I like for summer and all the time is Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Split End Protector, 6-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 4). I just put this on my ends and then comb because it tends to make the roots goopy if I use too much of it. I have finally found a product that will make my waves frizz-free and soft, not crunchy looking and it is super cheap too! It is by Tresseme......flawless curls curl hydration lotion crème. I comb this through and then scrunch my hair and let it dry naturally. In the morning I can reactivate by spraying on a "beach/texturizing" spray like..Frederic Fekkai Beach Waves 5 oz..

I am excited to feature a friend today!! I have known Monica since high school and she has recently started an online business selling clothing on Facebook.

Here is a little bit more about her....

There is no better feeling (for me a mother of 4, former Gap, Macy’s, BeBe, Nordstoms, Banana Republic shopper) than just picking up a little “Drive By” warm Fuzzy for myself at Target. Just a blouse or dress. Something new, inexpensive and accessible! Nothing I loathe more than schlepping my kids in the Mall! Ugh. Anyways, sometimes Costco even suffices! It has become more fun to dress my kids! But Mama likes the fashions too! Time, money and motivation has been working against me! I recently bought some beautiful affordable items from another Mother( like me) on Facebook and I loved them. Getting them in the mail, was even better. It takes so little for us Mommies to get a pick me up!

So in this state of mind I realized I gotta do this myself. In my taste, and the things I love but maybe don’t wear. I always have had to make concessions. But IF the price was right, maybe I could buy different (maybe I wouldn’t have got for me) things! I found an awesome and affordable wholesaler and threw my hat in the ring! It is a bit challenging overcoming the “what if it doesn’t fit, I am afraid to buy online objection”-but my prices are sooo affordable and I am willing to work with people. I post the size charts and the items I sell are relatively true to size. I am also providing the Plus size items. Wow! Talk about a frenzy???? The plus size shoppers are so excited!
I try to pick unique, fun, funky fashion. Seasonal. My shipping is $5.00 no matter how much you order-so that keeps the bottom line down as well. Everyone has been so receptive and supportive-I am having a blast. And I look good doing it!

One-shoulder dress and cocktail rings

I have been searching for a one-shoulder dress that is flattering to my body to no avail. It seems all of them in this style are straight-skirted on the bottom half....and I am not! So I need to find one with a flouncy or A-line skirted bottom and a cinched waist.
Well, I MAY have just found a winner at Francesca's....yes, I know, again with the Francesca's. But their pieces are just so cute and affordable and seem to fit me perfectly, I am going to try this one out and return with a review once I receive it. (I am hoping it is not as short on me as the girl in the pic...probably not a problem since I am on the short side.)

Secondly, the cocktail ring. I went out on Saturday night with some friends and two of us had on cocktail rings. I wore this sparkly flower one from Cache.

The funny thing is that a woman at another table had on a really cute cocktail ring and we were admiring it and then she came over to our table to admire our rings. We bonded about our big rings! And the wonderful thing about this trend is that you can find them for so cheap. I think I paid $12 for mine. She paid $8 for hers at Steinmart (love that place, wish we had one closer) and said it was worth it to buy it even if she only wore it once! Hers was an enameled flower one sort of like this but in black...

These rings usually have a sort of stretchy bang so that they are adjustable and one size fits all. Super cute!

I think the only thing I don't like to shop for is bathing suits. For obvious reasons....Not fun!

However, the COVER-UP is fun to buy! I have LOTS. :) Found one 2 years ago in brown from H&M for $9 and love it. Also have two, one in black the other turquoise from Victoria's Secret that are the tub-top with ruffles-on-top style. Also a white cotton tunic from Old Navy. I love the cover-ups from Athleta but they are a little pricey for me. I guess cover-ups are my summer can't-get-enough-of buy!

I received two of my online purchases this weekend and I'm so pleased to report that I LOVE them both!!!

Of course I have also worn them both already and received numerous compliments...so it seems that others are feeling the love too!

First...my DRESS that I ordered from Francesca's! Love the colors (rusty browns, pink orange) and the fact that it has a very slimming, extended, elasticized middle. It is just perfect for summer paired with my brown leather flops from American Eagle.

It's not as short on me as the girl in the picture...because I'm...well......SHORT (5'2")! And like I said I don't wear it with heels but flat sandals or flip flops. This will be my summer-live-in dress!

Secondly I received my white jelly-band silver bling wrist watch that I ordered from ideeli. Shown here (but the pic does not do it justice)... It looks $300 and I only paid $30!

It rocks!!! LOVE!

And last and way far from least....I had some mommy-alone-time this weekend and treated myself to a mani-pedi. I decided to go out on a limb (well, for me it is since I tend to be more conservative in my nail color choices) and get a lavender pedicure. I have to say I'm diggin' it. Not to mention my new Cynthia Vincent for Target hot-pink-studded sandals....oh yeah!

Stuff I am loving for summer...

I have been searching for some gold sandals and finally found some at DSW.

They are these great STEVE MADDEN flat luggage-brown and gold sandals The link here is from NORDSTROM where they are on sale for even cheaper than I bought them at DSW.

Along the lines of my previous post....I love that they are neutral and will go with pretty much everything. I got them to go with this sundress that has gold detailing on the straps. I love that they are not gold all over but just on the heel and a hint of gold across the ankle strap.

Another new love of mine is LASH STILETTO waterproof mascara in Very Black. I have recently been experimenting with the "Smoky Eye" look for going out and wanted a mascara that was not going to run or flake. This one delivers that and more! It is definitely my new favorite mascara. I don't normally wear wateproof mascara but it is worth it now that I am at the pool and swimming a lot with my boys. No more racoon eyes for me! For summer makeup I like to wear a tinted moisturizer with SPF like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, waterproof masacara and lip gloss.

Can it be done?? ......a black dress with tan shoes?

Absolutely! Don't be afraid to mix black and brown....but do it RIGHT! In order to rock this look you have to take in to account the style of the shoe, dress, accessories, etc. Here are some neutral heels I am loving....

Nude/neutral shoes are really "in" right now and they are so great for us short people because they elongate the legs!!!! The cool thing about black is that it is a neutral too, so it can go with every other color (or neutral) in the rainbow. A tan or neutral looks great with gold accessories too. Remember all metallics are NEUTRAL (and therefore go with everything) as well!

The other night I wore a this black dress out.....it has gold buttons (which you can really see in this pic too well) so I chose gold heeled sandals. I have also worn this dress with black heeled sandals. I decided after wearing it with the gold that I like it even better this way! (love these zebra chairs!!! sorry about the poor quality of photo, it was taken with my cell phone)

If you are going with a nude/tan/neutral shoe then the trick is to have it blend in as much with your skin tone. Especially if you are wearing it with a dark color on top. For instance I think a gold or nude heel works better than black when wearing a RED dress. Vice versa, you can rock a red shoe with a black dress too! Here I am in that same black dress with the gold buttons and RED shoes.

But I digress.....

Necklines and Necklaces

My friend has a request on a blog entry which I will do my best to honor....how to wear necklaces with different necklines. More importantly than the neckline though is the type of embellishment already on the top itself. For instance, if you have a top that already has a lot of sequin's, ribbons, ruffles, etc. I tend to tone down (or not wear) a necklace at all. Same goes for a halter top, there's enough going on around your neck with a halter-top neckline, therefore, skip the necklace and rock some pretty, sparkly earrings instead!

Basically....there are no real set rules as to what necklace to wear with a particular neckline these days. Don't be afraid to experiment with wearing more than one length of necklace with an outfit. The only caution I would have is to have a small (or no) earring if you are wearing a big piece around your neck and vice versa....big earrings = small necklace. Have fun with it!

(vs AVEEDA Salon styling products)

Okay, so I'm one day late. (more than a dollar short, but oh well)

Got my FREE stuff in the mail from Lucky Breaks....I was more than excited to try out my new Fekkai hair products!!! I have used them twice now since receiving them and have mixed reviews. I don't agree with the "ironless" title. I wash my hair at night and then can wake up and having it looking pretty decent in the AM. With other products I would have some frizzly ends and needed to use a curling/straight iron on them but with the Fekkai products my ends stayed frizz free but not pin straight. I had a wave to my hair. It has been rainy and humid too so I really put it to the test with this weather. It does make my hair shiny and smooth (I especially like the serum after blow drying.) but does not keep it pin straight. My next task will be to try the products and then use the straight iron and see if it lasts longer that way as opposed to using my "normal" grocery store products. I am not convinced that my AVEEDA smooth infusion styling product that I get from my salon doesn't work better than these. I'll keep ya posted.....

I love the trend of the "jelly" watch....takes me back to the 80s and jelly shoes that my friends and I used to sport in middle school. (Kim, you know you earned the title "pink bass drum" wearing a pair of these said shoes at BAND CAMP, yes band camp! I know, nerdy we were!)

for ugly shoes. Nothing ruins an outfit more than bad shoes (my pet peeve,as you followers know would be wearing running shoes/atheltic shoes with outfits other than workout gear). Or, stated in a more positive manner, the shoes MAKE the outfit!!!
I am a shoe whore (sorry mom). I admit it. I love finding the right sandals, flats, heels (kitten, stilletto, wedge, you name it), flip-flops, boots, etc to "make" the outfit. Every time I hear the excuse, "I am on my feet all day/running after kids/have feet problems so I have to wear comfortable shoes." from women wearing their (grubby/ugly) running shoes, I cringe. No excuse. There are too many cute "comfort" shoes out there now. Two brands I love (more than Privo by Clarks, by the way) are J-41 and Jambu. About 3 years ago I bought some J-41's for $80 (YIKES) and have worn them to the ground and have been trying to find a replacement pair for awhile. Well.....I finally found some!! I just picked up this very cute pair (pictured above) at DSW. A member of their awards program for awhile now (free membership), I used a 30% off coupon along with my $10 off coupon. So a shoe that normally costs up to $100 full priced....I got for $33!!! Wooohoooooo! SCORE!

Product review Monday - OLD NAVY CARGOS!!

Okay, so it's not a "product" per-say but I have to blog about my new favorite pants/cargos/capris. Purchased from Old Navy last month I bought these in white. Because I am petite and have hips I have a hard time finding pants that fit correctly in the waist and hip area. Well, these are great because they have these adjustable cinch-thingies on either side. I love cargos and my figure is not the best for them (in fact many say my body-typs should not wear these) but these are not soo pocket-y that they are too much (if that even makes any sense) going on around my hips. In fact, I recently wore them on my BFF trip and my friend K complimented me saying they "fit really well". So, I know I have found a winner in these!! And only $29.50! Can't beat that! (well maybe you can but it's pretty darn good if I say so myself)

Dude, I love Target.
I cannot go in and out of there without buying something! Usually clothing!
Today was in search of some new lamps for my living room, which I found and then of course had to browse through the women's clothing section. I had a 20% off coupon for any MERONA brand items that was burning a hole in my pocketbook (who says pocket book anymore besides your mom and grandma?) I found the cutest T-shirt. Very similar to the JCrew embellished T's that can be $30.....this one was $15.99 (then of course 20% off of that)!! (just FYI...Mine is not this color, I got the cream colored one with a pink "poof" on the shoulder.)

I can run the gammut in my style from preppy to trendy. Along these lines, I am loving the new rock n roll, studded accessories (bracelets, sandals, bags, etc). It looks especially cool paired with a more feminine outfit. I have a skinny studded brown belt (Target) which I have been wearing with dresses over sweater/cardi's. I love my studded bracelets similar to the ones pictured above...I got mine at Target (4 for $10 but not sure if they are still available). These from Fossil and ASOS are adorable as well!

I have my eye on these studded sandals from Victorias Secret (Colin Stuart, on sale for $39!)!!!

So, I think this is a great look you can add to your existing wardrobe to jazz/rock it up a bit!

Smokey Eyes

My latest obsession for night-time makeup is a smokey eye paired with a pale lip. There are tons of kits out there now that have the correct colored shadows specifically for this look. In browsing around Sephora I found the Bare Escentuals SMOKEY EYE TUTORIAL . I read the easy steps on the box and realized I have been doing it right all along but needed a few application tweeks. I used my own shadows and their technique and the result was pretty darn good. I may be purchasing a kit like one of these though, in order to REALLY have the look down...

Just back from my annual BFF weekend away (in Charlotte, NC this year) with my peeps K and S. Shout out to ya'll!! Love ya!
We had a blast....eating, drinking, mani-pedi's and of course, shopping!!!
On our shopping outing I discovered a store called francesca's....TONs of cute, affordable accessories. bags, dresses and tops. Unfortunately there is not a store close to me here in northern VA but I was informed by the sales person that they are growing and there probably will be soon!

Monday....Product Review - Spray Tan!!

Even though I live in northern Virginia now, I am a Florida girl (born and raised!) and this time of year I love to wear dresses and sandals but I don't love to have pasty skin. So without the harmful rays I use a do-it-yourself spray tan. I have tried many tanning lotions and sprays and by far the best I have found so far, results and price wise is by L'Oreal...it is the L'Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze Pro Perfect Airbrush Self-Tanning Mist Definitely easy to apply and dries really fast. The scent is not bad either....does not smell chemically like some others I have tried. I like that you can spray it at any angle and even get your back too! Most important it gives a nice natural looking tan! Get you some!

How to have a "What Not to Wear" Party...or something like it

I have been asked by a fellow blogger to describe my "What Not to Wear" party that I hosted for my friends. Great idea!
First of all the focus was/is on helping women to look their best (classy) and not like the house Frau that they have become after having children. You can still be a mom (either stay-at-home or working outside the home) and look put-together, classy and fashionable. Even on a budget!!
I invited ladies to my home that had expressed an interest in updating and working on their wardrobe. I sent an Evite and asked ladies to bring any outfits or accessories they had questions about or needed guidance on.   No one was asked to stand in a 360 degree mirror and I did not throw any clothing away.  There ended up being about 10 ladies in my living room. I had wine, fun music and light horsdouvres that I got from recipes from Clinton Kelly's hilarious book, "Freakin' Fabulous" of which I referred during the night for various style tips. I hung outfits of my own around the room with accessories to show some examples. Also I had out various styles of shoes, mainly flats to show that you don't (and shouldn't) be wearing your running shoes unless your are going running or working out! You can be cute and comfy at the same time!   I had a handout with various tips of mine on style, what TO wear, essentials for every woman's (mom's) wardrobe, websites and stores I frequent, etc. I also had a fun quiz that I made up using questions from various style/fashion websites. Throughout the night I had raffles prizes that consisted of inexpensive fashion books and fashionista stationary.
Since having this party over a year ago now I have had the opportunity to do so many other things. I participated in a clothing swap with some of the same ladies that took part in the original party.   Basically you bring several nice pieces of clothing or accessories that you own but no longer wear or use and you swap them out for someone else's nice things. I got two new pairs of shoes and a JCrew skirt out of it!
I also started doing some fashion consulting....basically going through friends closets and helping them figure out what goes with what, what goes for good and what accessories or items they need to fill in the blanks.    I hosted a Silpada Jewelry party and then co-hosted my Silpada rep's anniversary party by doing a bit on fashion, how to tie scarves and find fashion and accessories for less! So much fun!
Now, if I can just start getting paid to do all of this, I'll be in business....literally!!

Welcome to Monday #2 product review.....I know you are all waiting on bated breath to know what I will be reviewing today. haha
Okay....LOVE this makeup kit by Pixi. It is their Natural Mineral Makeup Kit in Santa Barbara.
I ordered it online originally and absolutely love all the colors. The eyeshadows are just right for a daytime look and a semi smoky eye can be acheived by using the darkest color around the rim of the eye. The cheek colors are great. One is a peachy powder the other more of a beachy, peachy stain that you put on with your fingers. Both great colors. Finally, the lip glosses are equally wonderful. The pinker of the two looks awful in the box but once on gives your lips a natural flush and shimmer. I combine the two for a perfect peachy sheen. This all comes in a really cute cube and is so great for travel!! They do sell Pixi at Target but I have not seen this particular kit at my Target so you may have to order it. Great price online for $17. Basically have nothing bad to say about this! I will be trying other Pixi makeup in the future for sure.

Product Review Monday

I am starting a new series on my blog....Monday's I will do a "Product Review" of a beauty product or cosmetic that I have tried and either love or hate.
Today's product is HAIRSPRAY. I have med-long highlighted hair that tends to frizz in the humidity in summer or in Florida (just got back from vacay there). I use straightening products on my hair and blow it dry straight. If I let it dry naturally it is wavy/curly on the ends and frizzy, even with product. Anyway, I have found a finishing hairspray that really holds the straight blow-out that I work so hard on! FINALLY!
It is Elnett Satin Hairspray. It is a bit pricey but soooo worth it. It does not feel heavy or stiff but keeps the frizzies at bay. I bought the travel size on my Spring Break trip to Florida and it was the perfect size to put in my travel bag through security. Thanks Karen (my wonderful mother-in-law) for this great find!

Do you resort to buying old lady (sorry), elastic waist jeans so that the waist will fit? Do you have to wear a belt so that your waist won't gap in the back? If you are like me and have a larger derierre/hips/thighs and have a hard time finding pants that fit in the hips and do not gap in the back of the waist....then look no further!! I have found the Eddie Bauer makes a great jean and capri that are for us women with curves!!! I have both the curvy jean and the capri and love them. I don't even have to wear a belt. Update on Patagonia dress...

The cute coral-colored dress that I ordered from Patagonia arrived yesterday. It is very cute.... love the garthering under the bust and the neckline is so flattering. However, the reviews it was given online are accurate on the fit. It is definitely fitted through the bodice and all the way down to the hip but then flares out to an a-line shape. It is stretchy material so it hugs the midsection (not such a bad thing on me since that is one of my good parts and I have large hips). The top part is quite low-cut but is good for small-busted chicks like me. I will use some double-stick fashion tape and affix some bra inserts like these into the top and will be good to go. The back is too low to wear a strapless bra with it. Overall, very cute purchase!

Speaking of the bra inserts....if you are small busted these are definitely the way to go. In the warmer months I wear them with all of my sundresses and also get some for your swimwear! They add a cup size and allow us small-chested ladies to wear some tops that we could not normally wear.

I was there the other day buying some things for Easter for my boys (they have great affordable holiday items too) and came across a rack of beautiful, colorful and inexpensive (ranging from $10-18) scarves!

I'm back....
nothing to report really, other than I have been working part time and not keeping up with my blog. Oops!
Time to clean out the closets again and get ready for Spring weather (I hope very soon). I have been yearning to wear something other than boots and sweaters now that it is almost March. I am going to Florida for Spring Break, so surely I will be able to break out the flip flops at the end of March for that trip!

The right accessories, namely jewelry can really make an outfit. I used to wear a lot of bracelets but then I had the boys and they got in the way or I would lose them. Now that they are older I have begun to wear more necklaces. And cocktail rings. The cool thing about jewelry is that it does not have to cost a fortune to look classy and pull an outfit together. I have gotten numerous compliments on pieces that are from Target. Places like Target, NY and Co, and Banana Republic (sale) are great places to find long and layered necklaces and other jewelry for less.

Speaking of classic....I really love the necklace I bought from a booth at "Shecky's Night out". It is a simple silver chain with my initial on it. I like it because it's preppy, casual and simple.

Fall footwear

I received an inquiring email from a friend of mine today concerning one of my favorite subjects....SHOES! Love them, can't have enough of them. Heard a line in a song (I forget which song) the other day that goes something like...."gotta make enough lettuce to support my shoe fetish". So true.
Anyway...the question my friend had was about shoes to wear in the fall when it is not freezing yet but can be wet and sometimes cold but sometimes not. You get the idea. Plus, she's a mom so it needs to be functional when running around with two small kids.
Here's my advice.....a cute, sporty flat type shoe will work...but please don't wear these with socks....it's just tacky!

If it is too cold for a shoe without a sock then wear something along the lines of these:

(A SIDE NOTE - Both of the above pairs are PRIVOS by Clarks which tend to run wider/larger...I buy my size and then put a gel insert in them and then they fit perfectly. Or wear a thick sock with the second pair and your golden!)

I also love a cute flat with jeans in the fall. (No socks!!) Still loving the animal prints like these:

I have been absent from blogging for most of the summer. At the change of each season I love the anticipation of the different types of clothing one gets to wear. Putting away sandals soon to don flats and then boots in winter....putting away sundresses and pulling out the hoodies and cardigans....scarves! Although I do not embrace change in most things I always look forward to the change in season no matter what season it is changing into. I love perusing the plethora of new fall catalogs that arrive in my mailbox. I have to say I am a bit disappointed that a lot of the fall sweaters they are showing are so big and baggy. Who does this look good on? I believe that many women can't (or shouldn't try to) carry off the baggy sweater or "boyfriend" jean....including me. Dumpy and frumpy. Unless you are waif-thin and even then...still just not flattering. But that's just me....
On the INSTYLE website they list the 5 key wardrobe pieces for fall as....the bright coat, the cardigan, a day dress, white shirt, and leather jacket. One I am most excited about is the leather jacket. I love the hooded leather bomber jacket but cannot afford the GUESS $298 one (shown here):

HOWEVER....in doing some research...GUESS who has a super cute hooded leather bomber jacket for only $30!!!????!!!!
That's right...my favorite store, TARGET....for only $30!! (oh yeah, I already said that) Of course I am sure it's faux leather...but for a trendy piece, this is right up my alley!

I have so much to update with my blog. Have been in Florida for my reunion and just now getting back into the groove of everything.
First of all....I have to say, the dress was a HIT! Here it is!

I am the one in the red....and don't my friends look awesome!!! These are my two BFF's that I have known since the beginning of time. I cannot express to you how much fun it was to see everyone again and talk and dance! We definitely partied like rock stars!!!
I had shown my friends the front of my dress but saved the back for a surprise. When my friend Kim saw it she said...."oh, there's a party in the back....a BIG party!" Haha! Here's the back....the guys are two of my classmates and my BFF's spouse.

I had to do some strategic taping in order to keep everything covered that should be covered. ;)

So, here is my advice when picking out a dress for a reunion or a special event (not necessarily for a wedding though because you wouldn't want to one-up the bride!).

* ACCENTUATE the POSITIVE - know what your best 'parts' are and show them off tastefully....[ie, if you have good legs (I do not) where a dress that shows a little leg.] Having the right FIT for your body is key.

* Wear COLOR...you want to wear a color that does not wash you out and branch out from your basic black dress. Save that for the wedding.

* Wear something that makes you feel like a million bucks! When you feel great in what you are wearing you will carry yourself with confidence.

I have purchased a dress for my reunion!!! Woohooo! It is sort of a slip dress which will show even the slightest panty-line so I have been doing a trial run of several different types of no-show panties. I have finally found one that I really love and really does live up to the no-show test! It is the new BODY BARE thong from Victorias Secret! I am also going to try their hiphugger in the same fabric to see if it passes the test as well.

H&M is an awesome store. Two words to describe it would be affordable and fashionable. I found a chocolate brown bathing suit cover-up there last summer. I get compliments on it every time I wear it....and it was only $10!!! Can't beat that with a stick.

Anyone who knows me at all know that I am a shoe whore. Therefore I am especially excited about this!!

Summer dresses...

I love to wear a sundress in the summertime and there are so many CUTE ones to choose from right now!
I bought 2 dress about 2 years ago at TJMaxx that were only $20 each and I have basically worn one of them out so much that I am on the search for one that is the same cut but different fabric.
I am currently eyeing these two from AE:

Although $40-50 is pretty steep for me to pay at this time. So I am searching elsewhere for a better price. May have to hit TJMaxx again!
I also found some really cute ones at EddieBauer.com....but don't try to find them in the stores, they don't have them. :(

Dress "code" lingo and what does it all mean!?

I don't know how and when it all happened but our "dress code" lingo has changed in the past several years... The seemingly simple (although this caused me angst at times as well) "casual", "cocktail", "informal", "semi-formal", "formal/white tie/black tie"...somehow segued into all of these OTHER possibilities. We now have your "resort casual", "Creative Black Tie" (I had not heard of this until I googled dress code lingo's), living in TX we had something called TX casual/dressy, "Denim and Diamonds" (pretty self-explanatory but I did not care for this as who wants to show up in jeans next to someone in a long sequined gown? I went for the party top and jeans - best of both worlds.) My favorite (sarcasm) is "dressy casual"...I mean WTF? Which is it...dressy or casual? I want to shake the person that came up with this one. What is most annoying is that it seems to be easiest for the guy to figure out what to dress like because his options are less endless than a woman's are I suppose. A guys has basically 4 different "looks" that can fall under any of those headings for dress code....

FORMAL/black tie/etc. - tux or even dressy suit
SEMI-FORMAL - suit
CASUAL - anything goes
etc.

With women, not so simple. FORMAL can mean full length gown in some settings or just a "cocktail" little black dress. Or even sparkly pantsuit (although I would never wear this, apparently they are coming back).
SEMI-FORMAL - I would wear a cocktail dress (shorter dress but can have a bit of sparkle or dressy accessories)
INFORMAL - this one is tricky...in my google search I found this explanation
Informal is often interpreted as the same as Casual but it actually calls for the same dress as Semi-Formal -- dark suits for him, short dresses for her -- especially when associated with a wedding or special event.

So basically, it depends on the event. I will also say I think it depends on the location. Last year I went to two different weddings....one on the beach in Florida, the other on the water in Massachusetts. My husband asked why I could not wear the same dress. (Hasn't he learned yet? Is my question, but that is a whole other post!) I felt a beach wedding called for a long silk maxi dress with silver thong sandals and the MA wedding called for the blue JCrew dress (seen pictured in upper right corner of my blog). Although I would have been fine in either one for either wedding, I think I felt comfortable with my choices while I was there and that is what is important.
I also read somewhere that it is "always best to be OVER dressed rather than under dressed". I agree with this to some extent (*Ref. comment about the Denim and Diamonds code above).

Here are my "rules" that I go by:
Wear something classy, not trashy, something that accentuates your positive attributes but does not flaunt them. Something that makes you feel fantastic and special and not self-conscious...no matter what the code words on the invite or the venue.

Now to figure out what to wear for my reunion, which is dubbed "Resort Casual Attire" one night and "dinner attire" the next...oy!

Look at the cool necklace I received from my boys for mother's day!
Not only am I bragging on my wonderful husband....but I continue to be impressed with Sundance Catalog and their wonderful, unique and affordable pieces of jewelry. Sunday is Mother's Day and I have to help direct the children's choir at my church in a production. It is a musical and the kids (and apparently adults involved) are supposed to wear the T-shirt with the logo of the production and jeans. Dude, it's mother's day.... I am so not a logo-emblazoned T-shirt-and-jeans girl for church/mother's day or really any occasion.....unless is cute and fitted and pink maybe...but it is not cute, fitted or pink. I am thinking I may just wear some "church" clothes and put the t-shirt on for the duration of the program and whip it off immediately afterwards. Seriously.

The Maxi Dress

I am 5'2 1/2" and unfortunately (or fortunately?)love the maxi-dress. I am forever trying to convince my tall friends to invest in one as I think a tall person REALLY looks good in this and can carry it off much better than someone like me. I do have a few already but I have to wear them with a heel because they are sooo long on me. Maybe it's just me but I think they can make you look taller since it is one continuous piece of fabric from head to toe and with a heel it is elongating (maybe that is just what I tell myself so that I can "get away" with wearing it though).

With that said, I found a new website called SHOPROBERTSON.com which shows celebrity fashion and then you can actually buy the goods right there on the same site. The price ranges dramatically from over 100s of dollars to around $20 for some things so you have to dig...it's like Nordstroms Rack only online. They do have a Robertsons Rack section where you can get 30-70% off!!! My favorite part of the site is the CELEBRITY STYLE section. Note all the MAXI DRESSES the celebs (Jessica Alba) and non-celebs (ie Lauren Conrad) are wearing. ;)

I love to "read" magazines. I have subscriptions to People, InStyle, Allure and now Lucky. I love the makeup brand suggestions, style tips and seeing what the different celebs are wearing. I have purchased the last two PEOPLE STYLEWATCH mags off the stand and I'm considering adding a subscription to it as well. I swore that I would not buy some of these....I didn't think I liked them. But the more I see of them, the more they are growing on me. I think in a metallic finish or neutral they can be very practical and trendy at the same time.
So, now I need to figure out WHICH ones of the plethora out there, to actually purchase.

So Saturday night a friend and I went into the city (DC) for "Shecky's Night Out". It's basically a bunch of vendors selling accessories and clothing. They also have FREE drinks and beer all night and we even took part in a beer tasting with food pairing demo. At the end of the night you pick up your free gift bag with all these free samples inside (some were a bit more exciting than others, but hey, it was free!). They charged $15 for the whole night if you got your tickets in advance. Completely worth it I thought. Each vendor had a table or two set up with their wares and you could try on the jewelry or clothing (they had these cute little cabanas for that).

And did I mention, the drinks were freeeeee!?!? They had three different cocktails to try using different blended liquors (brands which helped to sponser the event). "Xrated" Fusion liquor mixed with SKYY vodka made a "Flirtini". Very sweet - like a cosmo sort of. The MIDORI margarita (many did not like this - it was tart but may be better on it's own rather than after having the sweet flirtini drink). But my favorite by far was the "Shop Til You Drop"...may just be my new "signature drink" (a la Clinton Kelly from the show "What Not to Wear" in the book "Freakin' Fabulous" he speaks of having a signature drink and knowing what your friends' siggie drinks are so that you can have them for them when you entertain)!!

Here's the recipe:
"Shop Til You Drop"
1 1/2 parts SKYY Infusions Citrus Vodka (I will use Absolut Citron b/c it's what we have in our freezer)
2 parts lemonade
splash of club soda

Combine ingredients and shake with ice. Top with club soda and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

Very refreshing and summery!

I also have my "Pomegranite Punch" that I make in the summer!!! Yummy!

Okay - still have not tackled organizing the rest of the drawers and closets.....maybe I need to have a nice cold drink first. ;)

Okay...everyone who knows me knows that I shop...a lot. Seriously, all of my blogging is about shopping for clothes! (I need to branch out a bit...but that's another post.)
Well, my drawers and closet are overflowing and I can hardly shut them with all the STUFF. I go through them probably 4 times a year (before the start of each new season) and try on, get rid of stuff I have not worn in a year and reorganize. Last night I tackled my t-shirt drawer (and CLEARLY I need more than one drawer but I only have one!) and now have 4 tall stacks of t's and tanks ready to go for spring and summer! I also went through my work-out apparel and got rid of the pants that were lurking in the corner that were too long/too stretched out, never worn or just plain worn-out. I think I had a jog-bra in there from 1990! oh my....
I still have my bathing suits, underwear, socks, pjs and shorts to go through. A daunting task.

So in my cleaning, sorting and reorganizing I realized there are some things I have that I have not worn just because I have not been able to GET to them. Also there are things that I hadn't thought of pairing together that I already own. I recently did a "Closet Consult" for a friend. I made this task up...I don't know really if anyone is currently doing this for a living but I would love to! Basically she and I took out the clothing for the current/upcoming season and layed it out and talked about what tops could go with particular bottoms and then we made a list of things like accessories and shoes that were needed to pull the whole thing together. I realized that I need to do this for myself. The sheer volume of my wardrobe though is holding me back. I haven't even mentioned my closet. I have one small closet (we live in a townhouse that was built in the 70s) in the master bedroom which looks like this...basically CRAMMED to the gills....organized chaos at best.

I try to limit this to items that are in season but at this time...the overlap...it is more chaotic than organized. Serious time needs to be spent here...
I am using the other half of each of my boys' closets for the non-seasonal items...

More chaos....
So, you can guess what I am going to be doing in the next several days! OH joy!

Seems everyone is having sales right now and not just on winter items...whether it's because of the economy or not, you can take advantage of the low prices that a lot of the stores are having right now. If you hadn't noticed, I do a lot of my shopping online. And Boden is one of those stores that I love to order from. Their clothes are really fun and whimsical feeling. (The leopard print flats with the bow in a past blog post are my Boden favorite!)

Love this trench. Still a bit pricey for me at $99 but isn't it CUTE?? (and a wardrobe staple for the spring!)

I love Target and cannot get out of there without spend under $100 (much to my husbands chagrin). I found a great T-shirt that reminds me of same favorite T's that I found at Banana Republic a while back. Only these were only $9.99 each!!! The picture does not do it justice but here it is in turquoise - I have it in coral and brown.

JCrew is another one that I think is pricey but when they have a sale I am all over it! Right now they are having a "Spring Sale" Pages and pages of cute cute cute stuff!

the perfect dress. I have my 20 year HS reunion this July and I am in search of the perfect dress. I have bought and returned a few things already because they were not just right. There are some really cute ones at Banana Republic right now...but still a BIT pricey at $98 bucks (I tried to use my 20% off coupon but apparently it is considered a sale/special item, so they would not allow that.) I tried this one on but not in this color...in a grey.

The cut is good but still not sure...
I also love "White House Black Market"....but have yet to try on anything from there.

Anyone have any ideas of stores to try?

One can never have too many pairs - at least that is what I think...and it seems I am always on a mission to find the perfect fitting pair. This months "PEOPLE" STYLE WATCH magazine has a whole section called "The Ultimate Jean Guide". One of the recommended pairs for my body type (petite and curvy) is Red Engine. So I went online to the Red Engine site and in turn it led me to the TrueJeans site in order to purchase that brand online. This site is coooool! I had no idea what size I wore in the fancy expensive jeans that run like in the 20's and 30's size range so they have this neat system that will recommend your size. You fill out a short questionnaire about your body type and then it comes up with all the jeans that are made to fit your body type! GENIUS!

The Weekend or "mommy-on-the-go" Shoe

Piperlime has teamed up with GAP, Banana Republic and Old Navy online and they have FREE shipping and FREE returns. My favorite mom-shoes (comfy, cute and practical for being out and about with two boys in tow) are what they are toting as "the weekend shoe". I especially like the mary-jane style with shorts or capris in the spring and summer. They slip on so no hands required. (No socks either!) PRIVO (the one in above picture is $90) and J-41 are two of my favorite brands in this style of shoe. They are pricey but wear well. I have had a pair of J-41's for 3 years now and still get compliments on them. They are a much more fashionable comfort shoe to wear at a theme-park or day outing with the family rather than the sneaker/running shoe and sock combo that I see often (and makes me cringe every time). I forget which fashionista said this (or something like it) but....You can be wearing the cutest most fashionable outfit but if your shoes are not rockin' it the whole thing sucks....that's my version anyway.

So, one of favorite stores, Target has some cute "Weekend/mommy shoes" that are way cheaper...granted I have not road tested these but if you want to spend less...WAY less (like $22 as opposed to $100) how about these...
